My second TOTU hub: you *can* connect three monitors; great tech support

I found this out with my other TOTU hub: you can use it with three monitors if you turn off your laptop's screen (press Windows+P keys, then click Second only Screen). If you are using a DisplayPort adapter, use active. Excellent technical support. I had no issues with this hub and my previous TOTU hub. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a USB-C hub. Based on my experience with their tech support, I would also consider it a plus if the product I was thinking of was made by TOTU. Over the past few months, I've bought several different USB hubs for different locations, computers, and devices. situations. This is the second USB-C hub I've bought from TOTU. I found their devices and support very good. I had previously contacted them about the possibility of only connecting two external monitors at a time, not a third. They responded quickly and told me that the Intel processor cannot simultaneously output data to more than three displays, including the laptop display (this limitation does not apply when the displays are driven by a discrete graphics card). Since displays connected via USB ports are always controlled by the CPU, I have to turn off the laptop's screen to use it with three external monitors. I researched this and confirmed on Intel's own website that what they said is correct and applies to any USB adapter or hub. The previous TOTU hub had an HDMI port, a DisplayPort port, and a VGA port. When I bought it I needed a VGA connection for an old monitor. This time I needed a hub to use my laptop in my new office and since the monitors were newer I went with this version with dual HDMIs and a DisplayPort. I won't be traveling with a hub, by the way. Instead, I have it in the office, constantly connected to external devices, so I only have to connect a cable to my laptop when I get there. The ability to connect external speakers through the device is a definite plus and is the reason I chose this hub. I don't notice any difference in sound quality compared to a direct connection to my laptop, despite not doing anything that requires high-fidelity. Another reason I bought this hub is that I can plug it into a network cable so I get the best possible speed when transferring files to servers on the same local network.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
