I thought it had a separate, removable inner layer, but that's not the case. It has 2 zippers which my 9 year old son finds very difficult to zip up and open every time, but warm in a very cold Maine winter. I am happy with the purchase, especially for $20. I bought two sizes (8 and 10) at the same time because the price was so cheap and there was free return (if size 8 was too small). This is quite a large size, my 9 year old is small for his age and a size 8 is still quite large on him especially on the body, the sleeves fit well. The pattern is very beautiful and fashionable, and the material is warm. He's been wearing it for a month now. 2 zippers is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, it feels like extra work without the extra heat.
