Review on CAMVATE Camera Cage Rig with Top Handle, Tripod Mount Plate - Compatible with Nikon, Sony, Panasonic (Black) by Steve Harris

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Everything is perfect except for one thing that sucks like hell.

If I could I would give 4.5 stars. It's perfect, except the mounting plate/stem mounting part really bugs me. I don't mind that this thing pretty much lives on top of your camera once you screw it on (if you want a cage that you can slide your camera in and out of in less than 30 seconds, you're going to have to pay a lot more), bug , I wish there was at least some sort of quick release on the stem mount. At work this can be done either with or without the poles as the gaps are secured with hex head screws and you have to remove the camera to get to them. And even if you then decide - as I intended - to just remove the bars and add a quick release to the bottom of the cage, you can do that with no issues except there are no threaded holes in the center bottom. Cell. In other words, if you're looking to install a cage floor quick coupler that attaches to a bar-based system, you'll need a matte box with vertical and horizontal adjustment components since the bars are off-center. Anyway, for the price it's unbeatable. Just be prepared to leave this cage on camera all day long for the shot. If like me you're shooting a wedding or other dynamic production where you need to switch from a tripod to a shoulder mount, slider, steadicam, etc., be prepared - as I am now lol - to invest a lot more into it for this cell system to function effectively in such an environment.
