Vise arrived in a box. The working height of the jaws is 9" from the top edge the bank . My gun shop has a working height of 46.75" off the ground. Not unwieldy, but takes some getting used to. There is some play or play in the dynamic jaw and a little in the spindle, but when it's secured the work is fine. The head rotates to raise the jaws or pipe clamp to work, there is a small set screw on the handle to hold the rotation in place, but it doesn't stand alone, once you clamp the work the rotation will stop kept under control This is a bit problematic in the sense that if you have work in the jaws and want to change the angle/rotation you have to let go of the work, we don't like it the rotation of the entire block is independent of the in workpiece clamped in the jaws. Simply loosen the two button clamps at the base and you can rotate the item from 0 to 360 degrees. I use a mounting plate on my workbench for various here tools. That means I only apply the vise when I need it. The weight is handy to move it from cabinet to panel and back with ease. I ordered several sets of magnetic jaw liners for scratch-free work. I want Yost to make a full set of jaws out of aluminum, plastic, rubber, leather and felt. Having to order separate sets from different companies means a poor fit and more variation. I removed all Phillips head screws holding the jaw faces and V blocks. They have been replaced with hex bolts and NeverSeize. Was very surprised that the packaging said "Made in China". Yost began manufacturing trucks for the US in 1908, around the same time China was killing Christians, missionaries, and American soldiers. It's a bit sad to think that Yost moved production there. My parents both worked in foundries in the US making pumps and valves. Both were fired when the companies (U-Brand and Myers) moved production to China. We've always been poor, but after these American companies moved production to China, we became desperate. Mom left us and dad died of an embolism. I was just a kid and my house sold for next to nothing at a tax sale. If my father had known I just paid $100 for a Chinese vice, he would have thrown a hammer at me. (and yes, it's called Payne)
