Great iron. I've never owned a Rowenta iron before, but I know the brand's reputation for quality. My 30 year old iron has been on its last legs for a while and it's definitely time to replace it after years of good service. It was a very basic iron, but it was all I really needed. This iron is larger but not too heavy and is very easy to manoeuvre. I particularly like the design of the sole and the shape of the tip, which makes ironing sleeves, collars and pleats much easier. The iron has many features that took me a little getting used to - firstly the dial is under the handle where it was difficult to see at first. The water inlet has a door and water is added when the iron is resting on the soleplate and not on the heel like I'm used to. At first I didn't think I could see the water level, but I found out that the orange plastic is translucent and allows me to see it when I fill it. I've ironed several men's shirts; casual cotton shirt, wool flannel shirt and dress shirt. I also ironed a pair of jeans and one of my tops with cute back pleats but they are very difficult to iron so I don't wear them very often. I'm certainly not in the minority when I say that I don't like ironing and only do it when I absolutely have to, but this iron has worked extremely well with everything I've tried it with. It only took about a minute to heat up, toggling between temperature settings was easy, and the iron adjusted quickly. The continuous steam function works well and I like the steam boost, but I've also found that it puts out quite a bit of steam when I lift the iron to rest it on my heel between clothes or when I'm moving something. I especially like the auto shut off feature. I think the iron is well designed and the price of $49.99 seems very reasonable for such a high level of quality.
