The retention mechanism does not hold the jack legs in place after each squeeze of the handle. Instead, the weight of the object being lifted causes the legs to simply slide down. The object was a dryer weighing about 90 pounds. This weight is well within the specified weight limit. Since all Viking elevators are designed the same, I suspect NONE of them will work. It doesn't work at all as conveniently as advertised.
