Great light but poor photocell

I bought these to replace a 175 watt mercury lamp in one of my outbuildings where the ballast had failed. This lamp is very thin and weighs about 5 pounds. compared to the old one, which weighs 4 times more. It also mounts to three existing brackets on the building, so it's compatible with the spacing and holes for old fixtures (I didn't use a pole as it mounts directly to the wall of the building). It's also very bright (much brighter than the mercury lamp it replaced) and I'm amazed that it only draws 75 watts. The bad thing is the photocell. It's cheap plastic and you can't face the photo sensor north - the sensor always points straight ahead. There are two settings on the photocell, one labeled "Timer" and the other labeled "Lux". There is absolutely no documentation for the photocell. I think the "timer" setting determines how long the light stays on or off, from 5 seconds to 20 minutes (I assume this prevents it from rapidly turning on and off at dusk/dawn) . The Lux slider has a sun icon, so I'm assuming it sets the sensitivity. I have both settings set to the middle. The first night the lights turned on and off about every 5-30 minutes. I addressed the latter a couple of times to tweak the settings to fix this issue. I'll reconsider and buy a new solar cell at Lowe's or Home Depot. Luckily, this device uses a standard 3-pin "twist lock photocell" that sells for about $12 at any hardware store.
