Instructions say just glue the tile and away you go. Well, a high-end thinset from a reputable company didn't stick to that. The tile came off with little to no effort. I called a niche manufacturer and they offered to sand them down and try another skinny set. In fact, they know that some brands don't go well with their product. Mine wasn't one of the bad ones. I didn't feel like experimenting with $15 bags of flimsy material, so I sanded it down and applied the remaining waterproof membrane. That thing sticks to everything. If the tile sticks I'll change the rating to 2 stars. It's not cheap. Due to the expense and hassle next time I'll build my own alcove using 2x4's and cement board.
