I bought the small (6-8) for my 5 year old son because I read reviews that it runs small. He is of average height, thin, not stocky, with broad shoulders. So when you take him out the legs look long but they fit so they go over his legs and don't stretch. Although it suits him very well. Not very tight, if he was 8 it wouldn't fit him or it would be tight. Please note the material is very thin like the suits you find in the store, soft stretchy material. But it looked great on him. It looks like it will last until Halloween and play after the holidays too. I love that the mask is removable so he doesn't get in trouble at school (no masks). Also includes a hood. The belt, face mask and stars may come off. I bought myself a ninja sword for it. He also had a bonus ninja toy figure that my son loved. It was great quality for around $17 with free shipping. If you buy from stores, the quality is the same or lower, but much more expensive.
