I buy Saucony shoes and only Saucony. They are very comfortable with excellent arch support. When my mother developed neuropathy after a serious illness, she needed good, sturdy hiking shoes. I bought her two pairs of mid-range running shoes and she loves them. She wore them throughout rehab; they gave her the opportunity (and stability) she needed to learn to walk again. All the physiotherapists commented that she had chosen a great pair of therapeutic shoes. My mum's only complaint about the two pairs I gave her to exercise was that wearing them all winter made her feet get cold - but that was because they are running shoes with a mesh outer tissue traded. She wanted an all leather pair - no "holes" - to keep her feet comfortable. So I bought two pairs of these first walkers (in this brown one and all white). The brown ones are really crisp shoes with a nice soft suede finish. Of course she loves them. As soon as she tried them on and took two steps, I heard the relief in her voice that comes from just a pair of comfortable shoes. (You know that feeling. It's the opposite of wearing a pair of "cute" heels that you know will give you bursitis and ugly crooked toes for the rest of your life.) Anyway, at 79, mom doesn't like cute things more. heels. For them (and for me) shoes that keep them upright and put one foot in front of the other are important. And they do it with comfort and style. The only trick is to get her to keep both pairs - not because she doesn't like them, but because she doesn't see the point in spending money on two pairs. (Do I stand out from this woman? You can never have too many pairs of shoes.) I think I'll just tell her I got a pair back and then I'll wrap them up and hang them under the tree for Christmas.
