Activated by movement ONLY. This means that if/when they detect movement, they will light up even if it is not dark. These are the ONLY motion activated lights I've found on the Revain that don't glow from dusk to dawn. That means they are PERFECT to me. My garage is very dark and I was looking for an easy way to light it up better without having to have new lighting professionally installed. Use motion-activated lightbulbs. When I used the lights from dusk to dawn, they would not come on in daylight, even though it was very dark in the garage. Likewise, they won't turn on when the dim light on the garage door opener is on. Disappointing! This bulb, on the other hand, WILL TURN ON DURING THE DAY. So I can actually see into my dark garage during the day. Note: They emit the harsh, bright blue-white light of earlier LEDs. Ok even needed for a garage but maybe not appreciated indoors. I think their lumens are a bit brighter than the old 60w incandescent bulb. Fine for my purposes, but something to consider if you don't want a glaring/bright light.
