My 10 year old 5 1/2 lb Yorkie had a little trouble with it. The material is nice but seems quite slick/slick which she needs to get used to and the steps are very narrow (6 inches) and steep making her very careful using them although I'm sure she will get used to it over time. Your desire to sit on my bed will likely outweigh your fears in the end. My mattress is 28 inches from floor to top. Steps 20 inches leaving an 8 inch jump from the top step to the bed. Because of the wood frame, my mattress sits, leaving a 2 inch gap between the mattress and the step. Since the top step was only 15 cm high, she just couldn't get up. She kept slipping and falling and tripping again. Only with timely breaks and plenty of treats could I get her to keep trying, even turning her sideways didn't help because without pressing the kicks against anything, they wobbled and backed away when she tried to stand up. It only got more dangerous. So I figured out how to make the top step wider AND fill that gap between the frame and the mattress. Found a box with a lid which luckily I had in my sewing room that was just the right length for the top step! boy am i lucky I sealed the lid with tape (in the shape of an L), then stuffed the lid with some material to fill the space and pushed the box onto the top step. Seeing that this would work I cut and glued a piece of hard cardboard (drawing canvas) onto the box that would match the tread to make it stronger and wider. Placed and glued some styrofoam on top and then temporarily pinned some material to cover everything. Works like a charm and now she's using it. I've attached some photos to give you an idea of what I did. Works best for her when I press it against the bed and nightstand. The quality of the goods is good. I don't think this works well for a large dog. This is probably normal for a cat or small dog younger and more active than my little Gidget. If you feel comfortable, my photos can give you some ideas if you want to change the product. I will keep it because I have a bad back and needed something light to move around when needed. Much luck.
