Grooves are not as deep as I thought they would be, but I encourage my kids to try harder to keep clean. It's in English but there is a corresponding Chinese which I consider a bonus. The pages are thick and the ink is definitely fading. I was expecting the books to have more pages but I'm not at all disappointed with the quality. At first I wasn't thrilled with how small the letters/numbers were, but it was actually better because your kids won't write capital letters in school. Both of my children had to learn how to write in SMALL and clean handwriting to fit the lines for their real school assignments. It was a good buy for us and arrived a month early! Hooray!
