Before I bought this duvet, I looked around in stores in Germany and the USA and on the internet. I couldn't justify paying the prices they charged for heavy premium blankets but I was concerned that if I bought the blanket online it would smell funny, nudge me with feathers etc. I made the jump here dared because I thought I could get it back if I hated it. When it arrived it was vacuum packed and appeared to be quite heavy. I opened the package and there was no smell at all, although the package said "down and feathers have a natural odor that goes away once you take them out of the package and air them for a while." I was quite expecting, that it would at least have some smell, but I didn't notice it at all. The duvet was originally quite flat, although there were no lumps of stuffing and it was very even. I shook it a little and laid it on the bed, knowing that it would swell over time. When I came back to it a few hours later it was still pretty flat so I just shook it in two or three big chunks and it swelled up nicely. I was amazed at the quality of workmanship. The seams are sealed, there are loops for connecting to the duvet cover, there is no "dirt" or cotton coat in the fabric referred to in the description. The cotton fabric is actually quite smooth and doesn't make any weird rustling noises. I bought a king bed for my queen bed because I hate the feeling of not being big enough; I'm happy to report that it almost touches the floor on either side of the bed. I've slept under it one night so far and it was very warm with only a sheet between me and the duvet (I ordered a duvet cover but it hasn't arrived yet). Overall I am very impressed with the quality of this blanket. I didn't have such expectations in this price range. I'd buy another one as a Christmas present, but there's no heavy/optimal warmth.
