This is great for keeping items around my sink clean. One of the perks is that every morning I get a clean and damp sponge and microwave it on this tray for 90 seconds. It gets hot enough to kill any microbial life and the tray is made of silicone so it can handle the heat. This will disinfect both the sponge and the tray. Now my sponge never smells again and I can be sure my dishes aren't covered in germs. Sorry if I sound a little anti-germ, but I majored in microbiology in college. Knowledge makes it difficult to ignore potential dangers, especially when you know them by name (Listeria, Clostridium botulinum, Bacillus cereus, Staph, E. coli, etc.) and what they can do to you.
