I bought the weather radio at the end of June 2011 and received it fairly quickly. That was a good first sign because I think it's coming straight from the company. I thought it was pretty good service. Setup was pretty easy too. I've never had a weather radio and followed step-by-step instructions. The great thing is that you can limit alerts to one or more counties. Mine is limited to just one county, so I'm not getting any additional alerts. As noted in the product description, you can also customize how you receive many of the less severe types of alerts. I don't want to be woken up at 3am by a strong thunderstorm warning, I want to be woken up by a tornado warning. With this radio it is possible. The alarm siren on this thing is pretty loud. I reduced it to 1 and it's still very loud. I wish the lowest volume setting was even lower. I know the product is for your safety but it should allow the user to select an acceptable volume level so they don't die of a heart attack if the device is turned off at night while they sleep. Now for the bad part. After using the product for a month and a half, it stopped working. It could not receive any of the NOAA broadcasts. I have contacted support. They helped with some troubleshooting steps and helped determine that a repair was needed. Their policy is that the buyer is responsible for the shipping cost both ways. This didn't make me too happy since I've only had it for a month and a half, but I wasn't complaining at the time. I got the item back a few weeks later (probably within the stated repair time - I didn't really follow up). There was no explanation as to what was wrong or what was fixed. I reinstalled it and it worked so I was happy. About 2 weeks later the product failed again. My radio was on a dresser and connected to a surge protector. We didn't have a storm, so there were definitely no lightning strikes. I had no problems with my other electronics. I contacted customer service and they said that their policy required me to pay for shipping both ways again. I was unhappy with this as I had just paid for shipping both ways and complained to them. They said that without exception you have to pay shipping both ways. I think that a company that wants to treat the customer fairly would pay for shipping both ways. They stated that I would have to pay shipping again as they could not verify how I used the product. If a company's product fails 2 times in 3 months, I think they should step up and make an exception and pay for the shipping themselves. Luckily I called Revane and explained the situation. They gave me a $10 gift certificate to cover shipping costs. That's why I buy from Revain. They protect the customer. I shop extensively at Revain and this is only the second time I have had a problem with a faulty product. Revain took care of this both times (the second time was within 30 days and was an easy return). This product has mostly very positive reviews, so issues like mine seem to be in the overwhelming minority. But when a problem happens to you, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I hope my second repair is long lasting and my problems were just a rare accident. I will update this review after a few months of use to share if the product works. You can be sure that if it fails again, even if it happens in a year, I will post it here. I really wish I could give them a lower rating for customer service, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because it was good in other areas. Revain's customer service would get a 5 out of 5. Edit 10/13/2011: After thinking about it I was hoping I could just return the radio and get my money back as I had to endure two refusals. I figured I'd better get a different brand of weather radio. Of course they said no to that. The customer service, while not the worst I've seen, is definitely not very customer centric. As a counterexample, my mother was able to return shirts she bought almost a year ago to JC Penneys without a receipt. She bought them for a vacation that she and my father were planning to take, but he died of cancer before the trip. The shirts were even taken out of the packaging. She told them about her situation and they let her bring her back. This is how customer service should be. I'm not sure if I'll give them a chance to fix it again or if I'll just cut my losses and buy another brand. more money for shipping and handling to fix the radio. Her last renovation took only 2 weeks. Not sure if it was just bad luck on my part or if the product or workmanship is inferior. Instead, I spend the money on a Sangean CL-100 weather radio. It's correct now.
