This is a great choice for storing oil on a countertop. Unlike my previous square bowl, the oil doesn't need to touch the water in the bottom plate. Love the fact that it's 3 pieces, not 2. As others have pointed out, it would be nice to have markings in the water tank so you don't overfill it, but that doesn't matter. I learned this about halfway through the right amount of water. I tried marking the line with both a marker and a crayon, but they came off immediately once the water was added. It seems that the scratch needs to be baked somehow for it to stay. Again, not a big deal.
