PXN V900 - So far so good (fair enough for the price)

Just received today. Started playing with it. I first bought it for use with American Truck Simulator on a Windows 10 PC and skimmed the "manual". No mention of drivers, no drivers included. Okay, we need to connect and pray. Connected, auto attendant started. In ATS he was recognized as "Wired Wheel". After tuning, it mostly worked, but without any vibration. At the moment I haven't changed it from "X mode to D mode" by holding the mode button for 3 seconds. ATS to desktop finished. 3 seconds withstood the mode, a couple of flashes and everything looked the same on the steering wheel. There really should be an indication of what mode you are in. Also, it was causing some weird Xbox One stuff on my desktop. In any case. ATS turned on, ATS doesn't recognize that a previously configured controller is connected, so I reprogrammed all the buttons to D mode hoping the vibration would work. No, same result. Sign out of ATS again. A quick web search shows the drivers are available on e-pxn.com. Ok, download the drivers. Proceed with extracting the ZIP file, Windows didn't like the funny characters in the filename. Renamed zip, extracted driver file (an executable). Go back to ATS still showing as "Wired Wheel". At this point I know something is wrong as I was watching a video on setting up pxn for ATS and his video stated it was something different. In any case, reassign the functions, same result. Sign out of ATS again. Go into Device Manager and notice that the wheel shows up as an Xbox 360 controller. Right-click, uninstall, then unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. Hopefully this will force it to use the PXN driver. Also switched it back to D mode. My understanding is that this thing always defaults to X mode when first plugged in. Go back to ATS - make sure that ATS has recognized the device correctly, remap the functions and finally enable the vibration. All this aside. Parentheses are pretty stupid. I don't see how they can work unless you want to use this wheel as a pair of hangers on your Harley. The brackets are huge and I can't see a scenario where they wouldn't get in the way of someone under the table. This is my first wheel so I don't know how they usually stay in place. Suction cups are useless too. I have to come up with something, it's not such a big deal. Keys. In "D mode" 2 of the 6 bottom buttons are linked to the steering wheel paddles. I couldn't figure out why my configuration kept failing until I looked closely. It would be nice to have this information in the "manual". These keys are the middle keys. Stupid location again. If they're going to have common buttons, why not the innermost ones so they're easier to bypass? pedals When I'm lying on the floor in an office chair, they are very uncomfortable. I had to lift my heel. Again, you need to come up with something for them, and also so that they do not slip. As others have said, they are pretty light. For ATS I use 900 degrees, "mode D" and low sensitivity. I tried it at medium to high sensitivity and bounced through the lanes like a pinball. It was not nice. So far, everything said is so good for cheap Chinese junk. Let's see how long this lasts. I have pretty low expectations. If I'm good at securing these things in usable positions and everything holds up, I'll stick with a 4-star rating for ATS only, although I plan to try it on Xbox One with NASCAR racing. If it works for that too, that would be a bonus.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
