I've noticed people say that tannins don't come out when placed in an aquarium. There are ways to do this, as not all leaves are created equal. 1) Breaking the leaf into pieces encourages faster release of tannins 2) Making tea from almond leaves is the best method in my opinion. Boil water, pour over the leaves and leave overnight. The next day you have very dark water with concentrated tannins. I like this method because you can decide how much or how little you want in your aquarium. You can also boil water with leaves in a saucepan. I use this method too and it works just as well. Putting the leaves directly into the tank will not always give you the results you want and will take much longer to show up. The problem isn't with the leaves, it's with the methods you use. Hope that helps!
