They are very lucky and I suggest using all the stakes for them.
I use their products on two 5 gallon tanks, each with a Betta. The water stays clear and can be adjusted so that the current is not too strong for the bettas. You can cut off one of the sponges and block part of the water column on your filter, but I've stopped doing that as I don't see any environmental impact. They are very satisfied and I recommend using all inserts for the correct filter.
