I bought a 250GB Xbox Slim because my old 20GB Xbox Pro went through the second red circle of death, hard drive failed and was out of warranty. All I have to say is that the Slim's design is insanely better than the older models. The Slim's drive and fans are as quiet as outer space compared to the fan-like noise older Xboxes make. With so much hard drive space, you can also install games on the hard drive: load times in games are significantly faster, but you still have to insert the game disc into the console for anti-piracy reasons (which is pretty lame). The Slim is also just sexier than older models with its glossy black finish and touch-sensitive power and eject buttons. If you're new to Xbox, it also has some of the best games, both retail (Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc.) and downloadable (e.g. Castle Crashers, Limbo). I'm not a fan of Xbox Live Gold as you have to pay a monthly* fee to access online multiplayer and use other services on Xbox like Netflix, Hulu Plus and Facebook (on top of what you already pay). for the games themselves, the internet connection and the subscription services mentioned). However, from what I've heard, the multiplayer experience on Xbox Live is the best, well above what's available on both PS3 and Wii, and you can often find good discounts on an Xbox Live Gold subscription. The 250GB Xbox Slim is a fantastic console in every way and you simply can't go wrong choosing it. *EDIT: annual fee
