You will need an install kit unless.

This is for a 2010 RAV4 with a non-JBL factory radio. Drilling through 3 rivets and removing the factory speaker enclosures will make the remaining door opening too large for those speakers. Yankee Ingenuity's answer is to cut the original speaker around the perimeter with a utility knife, trim the remaining plastic supports/wires with side pliers and a flat file to wash away the remains. It's easier than it looks. Then awake. from what fell in the door. This housing has a two piece plastic clip for the original speaker wires, remove both leaving a hole for the speaker wires that come with the speakers. Cut the original wires at the terminal, thread the new wires through the gap in the terminal and connect them together. I just cleaned them and used duct tape. The loudspeakers are attached to the housing entrance with the supplied Phillips screws and clips. They protrude slightly beyond the door panel, but are not. This is a good replacement for the factory ones if you are keeping the factory radio with low power output due to 92dB efficiency at 1 watt meter. Spins good, sounds good, but I'm not a simple guy. A very good upgrade, but for the money it's a no brainer.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Generally good, but...
