Review on Sterl Lighting Reflective Replacement Spotlights: Optimize Your Illumination by Marvin Breezy

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The lamp is a HAZARD and will cause electrical problems if exposed to the outside environment.

The lamp was at the minimum allowable brightness before the fixture was shorted out and the circuit breaker was turned off to prevent damage from overheating the wires. The photo shows that the base of the lamp has a metal sleeve that surrounds the glass. This grommet has a gap that allows water to enter the base when used with a rubber sealed outdoor socket (Hubbell-Bell SL101B Portable Spike Light Receptacle) as shown. This caused rainwater to collect on the bulb, run down the glass and through the slot into the outlet, causing a short circuit. The gasket seals the housing but not the piston (gap). This caused the circuit breaker to trip as he found a short circuit and damage to the lamp and socket as shown. This lamp SHOULD NOT be advertised as an outdoor light as it can be DANGEROUS in most outdoor lights that use gaskets to keep water out of the connections. This is a zero rating as it only lasted 2 days.
