Review on Staedtler 2 Hole Pencil Sharpener Assorted by Carla Anderson

Great for moderate use - plastic top will wear out over time

I'm a college student and I homeschool two students, so we sharpen a lot of pencils. Although I just ordered an electric sharpener today, we didn't have one before. 2 years ago I bought this item for the first time because I needed a manual sharpener with 2 different size holes and the other sharpener I bought didn't sharpen our pencils! It amazes me how hard it is to find a sharpener that doesn't tear the wood or leave the lead uneven. That's why I bought this pen - I liked, that it leaves the wood smooth and makes our pencils look beautiful. It was easy to throw off too, and, as others have said, the chip compartment doesn't fall out unless you do it on purpose. For these reasons I have since bought 2 more of these and we have all worn them down, albeit from heavy use. The biggest downside seems to be the cheap plastic that the tops of these things are made of. The first one broke when a piece of LED got stuck in it and I tried to tap the sharpener on the table (not hard!) to get it out. The plastic broke and only the metal remained, so I ordered another one. The second broke while my daughter was sharpening a pencil - the black plastic sleeve ripped in two. I'm ordering another one now to have a replacement electric sharpener that I just ordered. I think it would be great for that, but if you sharpen a lot of pencils like we do, then you might want to consider buying an electric pencil. This is how you save money in the long term! I also have to mention that the metal blades stayed pretty solid throughout our use, which was great. However, the large side of the sharpener sharpens much smoother than the small side, which was fine for us as we mostly used thick pencils, but there are other options. to buy an electric pencil.
