Review on πŸ“· Sony LA-EA4 Full Frame A-Mount to E-Mount FF Lens Adapter with TMT by Brian Rogers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Note the difference between LA-EA3 and LA-EA4 and when to use both.

If you use a Sony E-mount and want to mount your old Minolta/Sony A-mount screw drive lenses, this is for you. Read on below if you want to know when is the best time to use the LA-EA3. This adapter has an autofocus sensor and a screw drive in one housing. Keep in mind that it replaces your normal camera autofocus system, so you don't get the same speed and score as the native lens. This is because older non-SSM lenses didn't have an internal motor and required a motor on the camera (or an adapter in this case) to move the internal parts to focus. Works reasonably well with old glass but is not the best option for SSM lenses as it limits the number of AF points on each lens attached. What about LA-EA3? This applies to SSM lenses (usually higher-end A-mount lenses) that have built-in internal motors. Mounting the SSM on the LA-EA3 allows the camera to take full control of autofocus, and you get all the features available on your camera body, including face AF that works almost as well as that regular E mount lenses I have both adapters as I have both screw drive lenses and SSM lenses. As with any photography, keep in mind what you're shooting and what settings are best to use and you won't be disappointed. Most of the complaints I've seen are simply due to a lack of research.
