Tight fit as you'd expect from a shoe for this purpose. Don't forget to bring a shoehorn to put the shoes on as the tongue is sewn in and you really have to stretch the shoes to put them on. The snug heel is great, it reduces the chance of heel blisters. The six stud shoe has excellent traction on the ground and with the shoe's very light weight I would call it an athletic shoe. Comes with 3/8 spikes with insertion tool. More expensive than the Kilkenny XC but worth the upgrade. if you can afford it
