Every BMW owner should have one. It always pays off within the first 18 months. As a general rule, I don't dismiss what the mechanic says about my car until I've reset the service indicator and see if the errors come back. This helps me confirm that this was indeed the original diagnosis. Many of the older BMW vehicles are very sensitive when it comes to the electrical system. Even a dead battery can cause the Service Engine Soon (SES) light to illuminate. The correct method of diagnosing a fault is to reset the codes and drive the vehicle again to see if the SAME codes return.
