Although these radios are easy for a 4-5 year old to use, there are too many buttons for scanning or changing channels for a small child become frustrated. I find these radios better for kids who can figure out there are channels and some buttons you don't want to press. These radios have all the features of standard FRS radios but come in some fun colors. They work very well and are great for around the home and not just for kids. The 4 AAA batteries lasted as long as I had them and I expect they will work fine until around the end of the summer. because the radios are off. The range is good. The properties are good. The workmanship is above average for a child's toy, but it doesn't meet Motorola's standards.
