This particular ottoman belonged to my parents and it has sat in their home for over 5 years with no wear. This is a very solid item. My little brother and I have stood, walked, sat and eaten hot meals on it and it still looks as new as the day my mom brought it home. Now that I have my own home I've looked through various coffee tables to buy but they all ran into the same problems - all the cheaper coffee tables were drywall, scratched easily and couldn't hold anything over 40 pounds or so...were wobbly or had the wood wrong color when unpacked. So now I've bought these storage stools (the same as my parents used) for my own house. Couldn't be happier! It's durable and I don't have to worry about friends sitting on it, putting their feet on it, putting their plates/drinks on it because I know it's durable and well built enough to withstand many years of everyday use. Since I have a tiny closet, I use it to store some blankets in it! The only thing I would be careful with is to keep knives/scissors/keys away from this ottoman because it really does look like leather and it looks like a sharp enough object could rip it apart. Perhaps you should be wary of puppies in the chewing phase.
