4 month update: It's dead, ugh! Up to this point it has worked fine. It looks like the transmitter has stopped working and can no longer send a signal. We buy another. We have an old car without a backup camera. Well, not exactly old, but in the modern world of technology it seems that way. We love the backup camera in our new car so we wanted to install it in another car. This camera was a great option for a great price. husband installed. Figuring out how to attach the wire and attaching the correct wires, taking the car apart at specific points is the tricky part. My husband is very knowledgeable about electrical engineering, so he coped well with this task. He installed it on the license plate screws and connected it by a plate that could be pulled out over it. He hooked it up to the reversing light wire so the camera would turn on when the reversing lights were on. Since the camera is a cheap and simple part, you must have a video display in your car. We also bought and installed a Pioneer multimedia DVD receiver with touchscreen and display in the car - that's the tricky and expensive part. My husband pocketed this and bought a new cap to fit the old one (so surprised Scosche makes a cap that fits most cars perfectly - called the DIN). In general, all parts cost around $500. I think if we were to install it somewhere the amount of work would be the same too. All in all it took two weekends. I would like to mention that for Pioneer models we have purchased a parking brake bypass which connects the display to the parking brake as recommended in the Revain Pioneer Display reviews to allow the camera to work properly without having to engage the parking brake, which doesn't make any sense anyway. The camera needs to be mounted at the right angle, or however you see fit - it took a bit of effort. The screws work well to tighten it at the right angle. It can be moved from its place - we had no trouble opening the truck and not hitting it, but someone else loading large items into our car awkwardly pushed it. It stays in place even if we slam the trunk. The camera's visual display is colour-coded and shows four contour lines, each with a different color - cool! Camera clarity is not as perfect as our new car, but still very good. I read somewhere that cold temperatures can render these cameras useless. The packaging says it works down to 0 degrees. We live in California so this is not a problem for us. We are very satisfied. My husband likes it very much! We've been through a couple of downpours and it's worked fine, but just recently there was a heavy downpour and water got in. We opened it up and wiped away the moisture, after that it worked. We then sealed the gap with waterproof sealant to prevent this from happening in the future.
