When I first opened the box they looked a bit anemic compared to the regular round strips we always bought locally. I bought 3 sets of these to put around the deck railing. They were easy to put on and connect as the day was over forty and they weren't stiff. They're all lit, and on all of our 28-degree nights, they also light up the ground below. My German Shepherd loves the lights when they go out after dark and my husband says he plans to leave the lights on year round as the patio also surrounds our pool. Yes, I would recommend, but don't let the looks put you off. Also, especially in cold weather, the cable must not be pulled or pulled tight, otherwise the tiny connecting wire will break. This is a common mistake in the cold Midwest winters. We live in Wisconsin.
