So I bought a house and there was a dimmer in the living room, but when I used it the lights hummed like a hummingbird having a fit. The lamps were still dimmed to a decent light output, but I was afraid they would light up. The bulbs themselves are slightly larger than what I originally had and if you look at them they extend past the tops of the sconces. However, they fade too damn low, more than I need. I have one of those round dimmer switches so I can set it pretty low with a gentler touch. Doesn't hum either, I'm much happier now with my new setup where I don't blind myself with light. The other good thing is they generate a lot less heat than my old CFL or HE bulbs. The CFLs I had were rated at 13 watts and these at 8.5 watts. I know it's not much, but it adds up, and since I don't have air conditioning, it keeps the heat down during those warm summer months. I plan to replace the rest of the lights with similar GE LEDs that only needed to be dimmed for the living room. Also, I was able to use old lightbulbs that I either didn't have in place because of other breakouts in the garage, or I wasn't concerned about light temperatures or colors. Anyhow, I am happy with my purchase and look forward to replacing the remaining lightbulbs throughout the house for further savings.
