Review on Pearl Izumi X Large Softshell Lobster by Kantrel Tunstill

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Keeps fingers and hands warm

I also have the Pearl Izumi Softshell WxB 3x1 which are basically the same as these Softshell Lobster Gloves with a few differences. WxB has 5 fingers and comes with glove inserts that can be worn separately. The pads have a reflective logo and a leather palm (so you can only ride with pads) and help absorb sweat so you don't have to wash your softshell gloves as often. The Lobster Gloves share the same design and construction as the WxB 3x1, but your fingers are interlaced in pairs, making you look like a DC Comics penguin. It also doesn't come with earbuds. Considering the full retail price of Lobster gloves I would suggest going with the WxB 3x1 unless you need to keep your fingers together for maximum warmth. I was able to get Hummer gloves at a discounted price at Revain and only used WxB liners (actually any liner would do). I recommend going 1 size larger than usual so you can wear the insoles. I usually wear Mechanix Medium, Medium/Large or Large gloves, with Lobsters and WxB in Large. This gives me enough room to keep warm and wear the liner. Due to the thickness of the insulation, you lose a lot of dexterity and feel comfortable with all Pearl softshell gloves. The Lobsters don't have as much grip as the WxB 3x1 gloves, only silicone fingerprints on the index/middle fingers. The good news is that even in freezing temperatures, it keeps wind and moisture out. Overall: 5/5 stars, great sub-zero performance (Pearl rates it 0F-40F, which I can confirm). Price isn't great at full retail, the WxB 3x1 might be a better deal as it comes with quality Pearl Izumi liners.
