We bought this little guy to swim but unfortunately the swim function doesn't work very well. The mechanism that drives the "fins" is one of those old-school winding jobs that doesn't have an internal stop to prevent rewinding, or a good indication that you're close to the limit, and once it buckles is, it doesn't work. Relax very well. The fin strength is also quite weak, making it difficult for him to swim very far. To make matters worse, the toy isn't buoyant enough, so it quickly absorbs water and sinks into the "dead penguin's" vertical float. Luckily our 9 month old doesn't care about his imperfections and will happily smack him on the tub edge, put him in his mouth or throw him out of the tub so it's not a total failure of the toy. We only paid a few bucks for it, so I think we got our money's worth, but if you're expecting to get "Michael Phelps" bath toys, keep looking.
