The external dimensions of this box are 14 inches high, 10.5 inches wide and 3 inches deep, excluding the rubber feet on the bottom which are approximately 1/4 inch and excluding support brackets for 7/ 8" deep canvas. The easel is taller than it is wide, meaning it works best on paper that's less than 10.5 inches wide and up to 11.5 inches tall when using a canvas mount underneath. ( which reduces vertical workspace by 2.5". This easel works perfectly on 8" x 10" paper in both landscape and portrait orientations. In my photos I show a complete set of Modern Theory Acrylics, that fits perfectly in the centerpiece when you just take the insert out of the box and place it in this easel tray. Storage compartments offer plenty of space for brushes, rulers, pencils, protractors, rubber bands and more. The tray fits all of these, plus an 8" x 10" pad of watercolor paper and wet palette paper with no problem. If, when you're done, you move the canvas support bracket to the outside of the case (or remove it entirely if you're just using paper, like I did), the storage space inside is increased and you can store 9.5x7 . 5 inch wet pallet box inside (as shown). Another reviewer said that the consumables don't stay in the sections but they are absolutely right, if you simply place your pad of 8x10 watercolor paper and wet palette on top of the trays before closing them. You can easily place a large landscape tray on the easel to work with larger paper. I am very happy with the purchase and I recommend it to all students who take drawing courses. This item makes it easy for you to take your accessories with you and is also great for storing at home when not in use.
