Low (expected) effort = a lot of money saved.

My wife's car key began to fall apart - it broke from the torque with regular turning. I evaluated the manufacturer's OEM replacement and was amazed at the price. After getting solid feedback on this dongle we decided to give it a try - even if we had a bug and had to try again we were able to do it multiple times for the price an OEM part should cost. But don't worry, we were ready for the first try. While our experience was simple, there are limitations to be aware of: You must have two existing, fully functional keys in order to "program" this key. The key will be empty. Many local hardware stores will not cut them for you due to the price of the OEM part they screw up compared to their cutting fee. Call ahead - your local locksmith will likely do this for you with a "no returns or guarantee" disclaimer. If this is a reputable locksmith they will conscientiously do everything in their power and 99.9% of the time the key cutting will be fine. You must properly cut the key before "programming" it. If you've turned it off and it can turn the ignition on, then from a locksmith's perspective, everything is fine. Programming: The same locksmith may be willing to program it for you for an additional fee, but instructions are included if you wish to do it yourself. They involve two steps: one to program the wireless unlocking (regardless of the key cut) and one to connect the chip embedded in the key to the car. This second part involves turning the car on and off quickly from the "on" position (no start) a predetermined number of times with each of the working keys, and then with a new key. The car will let you know if you did everything right. If not, try again or take it to a locksmith who will help you. and full function right away. For that minimal fuss we could have nearly 10 keys for the price of a retailer key.
