Monoprice is known for making some high quality products and selling them at a fraction of the cost that major OEMs pay. In fact, this is how the company started in the early 2000s and continues this MO to this day. This 8 outlet Surge Strip was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something with swiveling sockets so I could plug in bulky adapters without getting in each other's way. I wanted an extension cord with a power light and a surge protector because I was planning on using it in the garage with my power tools. What is a joule and how much do I need? The joule number indicates how much energy a surge protector can absorb before it fails. The higher the number, the greater the protection provided. The type and cost of the devices to be protected are decisive for determining the required degree of protection. Of course, the more expensive the gear, the more protection you should get. Inexpensive components such as lamps and alarm clocks do not actually need to be protected, but components such as televisions, audio/video and home cinema systems do. If you think you need protection I would start with at least 600 joules. If you are using it for sensitive electronics I would double it to 1200J. As you move on to larger things like power tools, computers, copiers, printers etc you should go up to 1800J B. this home theater or entertainment system you need to make sure it is safe with at least 2000+J protection. The area you live in also plays a role. If you live in an area prone to power surges and surges, choose a surge protector with a higher Joule rating. the world of surge protection that's never too much! Just remember that the more protection you get, the more it will cost. After all, getting only what you need is the most cost-effective way. The extension itself does exactly what it says it does. As I said at the beginning of my review, it meets all my needs and fits perfectly. This was perfect for my needs as I routed it from a garage wall to a workbench, but it's worth noting that the cord is only 3 feet long. This can be brief depending on where you intend to use it. Overall a great power strip with good surge protection. There are six sockets that rotate 180 degrees and two fixed sockets that can be accessed from the front and rear at 90 degrees. While not perfect, it's more than adequate for my needs. But what is a review that only points to the good? How are they ever going to get better? IMO, this power strip would be perfect if it had three additional things: 1. Sliding outlet covers (I use it in the garage, it gets dusty which can cause a fire). Plug to socket can be 360 degree low profile turntable.3. It can use some USB ports (USB-A, USB-C fast charge) which can deliver 100W or more output power. Of course, if he had those things, the price would surely be 25% higher.
