First of all it sounds great from an unscientific listening perspective. I haven't compared it to other Hi-Fi to see if it has a little more or less distortion etc. Bottom line, it sounds good. But that's not why this thing is amazing. This is great because it's the only line level Bluetooth device I've found that actually delivers full volume at line level. Your amplifier is designed for this. Climbing a little higher is not bad. Many hi-fi preamps have a nominal voltage of 2.1 Vrms. Based on several other established Bluetooth receivers, most of them probably only achieve just under 1.0 Vrms. That means the maximum volume is well below what your amp can handle. So that means your dynamic range will be unnecessarily and severely limited. I can turn my phone (player) volume to 100%, amp volume to 100%, Bluetooth preamp volume to 100%, and this unit's treble and bass to about 70% before hearing any noticeable distortion. And it's loud! Also, the bass pounded out of this thing is fantastic. Deep, full and tight at one point on the bass scale before it starts to distort. It was a damn find. My music has gotten a lot better.
