Review on πŸ“» Sangean PR-D19BU Portable Radio: FM Stereo/AM Digital Tuning, White/Blue, with Protective Bumper by Chantell Marie

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall I am very happy with this radio - it looks good and works well.

I bought this Sangean PR-D19 based on reviews of it and its predecessor PR-D18 on Radiojayallen and reviews on Revain. Having used the radio for a few months, despite a few negative points, I give it four stars; the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Overall I'm very happy with this radio - it looks good and works great which is a result of good engineering, ergonomics and manufacturing. Pros: - Good FM sensitivity. This radio allows me to receive stations that I cannot receive with my Yamaha receiver with a three foot wire antenna. Compact size. Conveniently, it's about the size of a thick paperback novel. The rubber buffer protects the radio and reduces the risk of slipping. - Good sound. I don't play it at high volume but it's enough to fill my garage when I work there. - Just. Many devices fail because they have too many features and capabilities that make it difficult to work. This Sangean is an AM/FM clock radio and nothing else. I really only use FM and it works great for that.- Good directions. The instruction manual is complete and well written. You need to use the manual for some initial settings and learn how to do some operations. Cons: - Small non-luminous key markers. With my reading glasses, I constantly have to determine the labeling and function of the buttons, and I also have to illuminate them when the radio is in the dark. This is by far my biggest reservation about radio. The AC adapter had to be purchased separately. For a radio of this quality and value I think the power supply should have been included, especially as many reviews of its PR-D18 sibling suggest it has a good appetite for batteries. Other comments on power supplies for Sangean radios indicated that instead of a switching power supply, a full-wave bridge rectifier power supply should be used, which can cause static electricity on the AM bands. I bought a Sangean power supply for the PR-D19, ADP-PR-D19 and can report that AM stations work almost as well with the Sangean power supply as with batteries to power the radio.
