Review on Sherpani Camden Raven Laptop Backpack by Dana Manning

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good for states, but not for pickpocketing.

I usually really like the Sherpani products I bought from brick and mortar stores, but as this was the first product I bought online I didn't get a chance to play around with its features. As someone whose credit card was stolen from my wallet (sigh), RFID and lockable zippered pockets are big selling points for me. The description of the RFID pocket included the word "security" but was so vague that I emailed Sherpani asking for clarification. The spokesman explained that "security" refers to an RFID-protected bag. FYI: The RFID pocket is a large, charcoal colored one that sits on the front of the backpack and does not latch. Therefore, it is well suited to areas where pickpocketing is not common. So this bag will not go to Europe with me. This bag accompanied me to a conference and contained my Chromebook, iPhone, charger, 24oz Contigo water bottle, sunglasses, hoodie, etc. It's pretty thin and can fall off. One photo shows my size 7 sneakers, a water bottle, a large sunglass case, a medium toiletry bag, a hoodie (below), a Bluetooth speaker, and a Kindle in a deep RFID pocket. The zippered main compartment has an internal mesh pocket that holds an additional 24 oz. water bottle or umbrella. As other reviewers have pointed out, when worn as a backpack, the shoulder strap dangles and gets in the way. I couldn't unbuckle the shoulder strap (see close-up) which was annoying. There are also two patch pockets in the main compartment. The lower exterior zippered pocket has a key clip. My colleagues were amazed that I was able to carry my Chromebook, snacks etc. and felt comfortable at the conference as they carried their heavy bags over one shoulder in addition to their bags. So if you don't mind the RFID pouch not locking, this is a great pouch. That lack of security and the annoying shoulder strap is the only reason this bag didn't get five stars from me.

Pros
  • RFID PROTECTION: This bag has an RFID lining that prevents your credit card or passport information from being stolen from the outside of your bag using hacking technology.
Cons
  • Safety
