Bugs and bugs and bugs and bugs and bugs and bugs and bugs

As expected. Repeat purchase for home dyeing of silk fabrics, wool/silk/ and vegetable fibers for spinning, knitting, quilting, making up etc. This dye is not recommended for children's clothing as some may be delicate. Adults don't have this problem. This is the same creature that dyes food and cosmetics a crimson color. These little girls are organically harvested from prickly pear cacti when full of color and dried. To use them, pound them in a mortar and pestle that you don't want to push edible things through (for flavor, nothing else). Pour the powder into warm/hot water. Add fiber, heat and simmer for 40 minutes to 2 hours (no longer. Keep 40 minutes to an hour to avoid over-coloring). Before rinsing, soak the fibers in cold water with a little salt. These are just basic instructions, treat fibers according to their needs. For this reason I have left some of the instructions open because if you follow the dyeing procedures for your fabric it will fill in the rest of the steps for you. That gives great color. Make sure to dip the fabric/yarn until you run out of dye bath. This little jar will go further than you think. You can layer this dye by rinsing the fabric in the shade/darkness, allowing it to cure and dry before putting it back into the dye bath. This will yield some dark red/purple colors that are amazing. If your dye bath looks a little purple, add some white vinegar or lemon juice. Not too much, but just enough to give it a nice pink color.

Pros
  • Permanent on all natural fabrics
Cons
  • Uncertain
