The laser does not come with a power cord to power the control board when using it as a standalone laser on the Ender 3. Luckily I had a spare 12v 1.5 amp power supply from Netgear and it works great, but 12v 3 amp is optimal according to the specs. This is the same laser module as on the ortur Laser Master machines. To be clear for the Ender 3, you need to have the Ender 3 powered on, the laser plugs into its own power outlet, the control board gets 24v from one of the fan outlets on the Ender 3 motherboard, and you need to plug in a micro- USB connector into the front port of the Ender 3 , which connects to a computer running laser software. The default setting on the laser control board is off, when you press the button marked switch on the laser control board it turns on where you can manually adjust the power up and down (PWM+ or PWM-) and it stays on all the time . for that percentage. When you are ready to record with the software you have to press the shift key again and the led will move down to the ttl setting where it will accept commands from your computer (if you start recording with no ttl selected it will only move the Laser on the power that you set manually, no PWM: pulse modulation * on and off at different power levels * I chose this because I knew that the advertised 20 watts is just marketing bullshit and in fact the output power is about 5.5w but it's perfect for light cutting and engraving. To install it on the Ender 3 machine I rebuilt the laser mount with quick switch designed so that I can change the hotend quickly (installation holes need to be lengthened as this module is longer than Creality's standard laser). I also move the Z axis to lock the stepper before recording to prevent unexpected crashes in the Z axis as this laser is quite heavy for a machine.
