These lights are fantastic, the designers did a great job controlling the heat and I feel like I put it right on the ring around the light and not the back where it would be covered with insulation. I tested it for a few hours before installing it on the ceiling and found that the ring gets hot while the back of the light stays cool. The color of the light corresponded well to the temperature of 3000K. The angle of illumination is very small, which helps reduce dark areas on the ceiling. Metal springs keep the lantern in place very securely. When removing the light you need to be careful because a strong spring can damage the wall of the tray. I also cut a hole in the ceiling with a Klein Tools adjustable hole saw that includes a dust cover that reduces dry dust on the wall. .One downside: I used 14 gauge Romex cable with a plastic jacket, but there is no grommet in the sharp metal housing to protect the Romex from cuts. So I had to run to the local hardware store to buy grommets.
