Bought this new for my 3 year old hedgehog. She used to eat high protein cat food but I thought I'd try something different for her. She obviously likes that better than her old food because when I put both in her cage for the evening it's gone and the cat food is mostly intact. At first I looked for other food as I wanted something softer for her since she lost her canine tooth. It had the same firmness as cat food, but smaller pieces, so it might have been easier for them to chew. As for their poop, which I deal with every day, it's softer than cat food. I think it could be a bit better as it might be easier for them to mind their own business, but I don't know as I'm by no means an expert on hedgehogs. cat food works. Generally a trifle, but I definitely don't like the smell of cat food under a heat lamp. I definitely don't get overwhelmed by the smell of this food when I walk into a room. All in all I think I will continue to buy this food instead of their cat food. It's a bit more expensive, but I think all the benefits outweigh the cost (which isn't much higher).
