I looked at a lot of cat shelves before I bought them. They're definitely more expensive, but it's clear that manufacturers have put a lot of time and effort into getting them right. The bracket that attaches to the stud is well made and well designed and that was the part that bothered me the most. But once assembled, it's so solid you'll think you can sit on it. (You can't, you don't.) The only improvement I made was I added a rug at the top for the cats to cling to. The shelves are sleek and this will likely suit most setups. But I use them to build stairs to get to the attic. The cats have to jump up and down to each of them and seem better off if they have something to hold on to. Otherwise these are fantastic shelves. And while they can be more expensive, they're definitely cheaper than patching a drywall hole when the cheaper ones are ripped.
