I've been using Avon Eye Make Up Remover for over 20 years with no problems. I have tried several different brands depending on my needs and experienced burning, itching and redness with some. It is not an oil, it has a creamy, soft and thick texture and acts as a moisturizer for the eyes. My method of application is to moisten a cotton swab, apply a small amount of remover to it and wipe the makeup off my eyes. I also wet my entire face beforehand and then finish with a facial cleanser. This will ensure all makeup and residue is removed leaving only a clean face. I personally would never use something dry like a handkerchief to remove makeup, it's too much like a scratch pad. Along with the fact that you are most likely losing your lashes with all that peeling and using more product than you need.
