I have two Baofeng radios, one with Nagoya (which I consider the gold standard in antennas) and one with a standard antenna. I wanted to replace the standard radio which wasn't as expensive as the Nagoya but worked just as well. When I walked in I thought it was impossible, and I was right. But this antenna comes pretty close. I borrowed from a friend from Baofeng who also owns a Nagoya and did a parallel test with my son and our local park. I sat with both walkie talkies while he walked through the park and surrounding area. We kept drifting apart when using two Nagoya equipped radios no matter what other antenna we tried. However, this antenna took second place. The difference was only about 100 feet when the signal quality started to drop. Of course, these were almost ideal conditions. The park is huge, so there was nothing to interfere with. That's what I was looking for. I can't tell you how well this antenna will perform in a neighborhood or amusement park - we haven't tested it that way. The antenna is MUCH more tolerant of rough handling than the Nagoya. You can also remove the whip end of the antenna, which will leave a "short" which is perfectly acceptable for receive-only mode (don't transmit with the whip removed!). For the price I'm satisfied.
