The first time I tried to hold the empty jug by the handle, the top part of the handle came loose. It's a shame to go to great lengths to create such a good pitcher and grip and not put the extra effort into putting them together well. In any case, keep it, because with two hands it is relatively easy to grasp, at least for me. For a person with small hands, this may not be so easy.
