Thick rod, but some balls got stuck in the rod from the start.
There are a couple of pairs where the ball won't detach from the stem, so we could never use that pair. They were cheap so I think that helps make up for that but it's still disappointing. The stem is very thick if you are using it on a child so the piercing had to be stretched the first time to get it through. Otherwise they are super cute.

- I can't even take these earrings off to try them on.
