Our clever little dog used to climb on chairs and sofas when nobody was home, but jumped off as soon as someone came home. The pet lock worked great. It only took one try in each place and it never matched the furniture again. One of the reviewers said that this device injured her dog. I'm sorry to hear that, but I suspect the device may have been on higher settings. There are 5 settings and I started with setting "1" which does not shock, just noise and some vibration. In other words, it's really gentle. While I haven't tried higher settings, I doubt the electricity could ever really harm an animal since it's powered by a 9 volt household battery. All in all, a great device whose range can be easily adjusted.
